Good Design
Design features:
Text: Summarize the qualities of the use of type that make a website successful.
The background color or design should not interfere with the text. The text is large enough to read but not huge. The way the website presents important information is clear.
Navigation: Summarize the qualities of the navigation that make a website successful.
It must be easy to navigate through a website or the customer will get frustrated and give up. The bars and buttons are be easy to understand and help the viewer have a clue where they are, including showing them what page they are on and what pages they have already been to. And the large site has a site map or an index.
Links: Summarize the qualities of the links, and their behavior that make a website successful.
Links are always underlined and also coordinating colors with the website. They should also ALWAYS work!
Graphics: Summarize the use of Graphics, vector and raster, that make a website successful.
Every graphic on the website must has an atl label as well as a matching text link. Graphics and backgrounds have browser safe colors and animated graphics turn themselves off.
General Design: Summarize the aspects of the overall design that make a website successful.
Pages download quickly, the home page and first page fit into 800 x 600 pixel space. All of the pages in the site go together cohesively.
Notes:
A good website also keeps the viewer around for more then 3 minutes. Navigation is key for any online shopping website. Too much on one site can also be over whelming for the viewer.
Design features:
Text: Summarize the qualities of the use of type that make a website unsuccessful.
Text is too small or way too big. Text that is centered, all caps, bold and italic is not fun to read. And underlining text that isn’t a link is confusing. If the background behind the text is busy and distracting you wont be able to see the text.
Navigation: Summarize the qualities of the navigation that make a website unsuccessful.
Unclear or over complex navigation makes viewers frustrated. Not changing the color of pages that the viewer has already viewed can make the view confused.
Links: Summarize the qualities of the links, and their behavior that make a website unsuccessful.
Links that are unclear where they are taking you are never good. Dead links are a waste of time and useless pages are never fun.
Graphics: Summarize the use of Graphics, vector and raster, that make a website unsuccessful.
No one wants to sit around and wait for one of the website’s graphics to load especially if they are useless. Graphics also should fit on a screen and always have alt labels.
General Design: Summarize the aspects of the overall design that make a website unsuccessful.
Anything that blinks has to go. If your site is under construction, you don’t need to post it, especially with little construction men. Junk, anything that clutters or is irritating, advertisements included. If there is no focal point or too many focal points, that’s never a good thing. No one enjoys scrolling sideways on any web page, its just a pain, so don’t make the page too big. All of the colors on the page should contrast.

Design features:
Text: Summarize the qualities of the use of type that make this site unsuccessful.
The background is kind of distracting, it’s a giant picture of her and I feel like it kind of takes away from the text. I also am not a fan of the type she chose for her text. She also has three different types of text, too much.
Navigation: Summarize the qualities of the navigation that make this site unsuccessful.
Not a large site so she doesn’t need a map but still very basic. The places you have already navigated to do not change colors. So therefore I don’t know which places I’ve already been to.
Links: Summarize the qualities of the links, and their behavior that make this site unsuccessful.
The PDF of her resume did not download on to my computer.
Graphics: Summarize the use of Graphics, both vector and raster, which make this site unsuccessful.
Graphics are easy to navigate through but they aren’t very big.
General Design: Summarize the aspects of the overall design that make this site unsuccessful.
Nothing pops out to me. I just think it’s boring. The pictures aren’t that great and her font is hard to read.
Describe the purpose of this site in the notes. (Include whether it was easy to determine the purpose – why or why not?)

URL of Well Designed site:
Design features: http://www.sydneylovesfashion.com/
Text: Summarize the qualities of the use of type that make this site successful.
The colors are all-cohesive together and are on a black background. But the date of each of her blog posts is kind of hard to read. I also like that each of her separate blog posts are outlined so it doesn’t look like all of her posts run together.
Navigation: Summarize the qualities of the navigation that make this site successful.
She has a home button on the bottom of her page as well as a “older posts” button. From the top you can locate her facebook, twitter, resume and fall trends.
Links: Summarize the qualities of the links, and their behavior that make this site successful.
All of her links work and as you roll over them they underline and change colors.
Graphics: Summarize the use of Graphics, vector and raster, which make this site successful.
There is one large graphic at the top of her screen that always takes you home. There are no other graphics on the site making it not look cluttered. And every picture that she posts in her posts has meaning.
General Design: Summarize the aspects of the overall design that make this site successful.
The design is kind of plain but it makes the product pictures really stand out. I think that most fashion-marketing students like to keep things plan and simple, which is what she did.
Describe the purpose of this site in the notes. (Include whether it was easy to determine the purpose – why or why not?)
Notes:
Because we don’t do much designing I think the best way that fashion marketers can show their work is through blogs. We are so opinionated and voice ourselves through our words. We are known for picking out trends and forecasting them. We are very good at researching and like to keep our blog followers informed. I think a blog is a great way to keep up on a portfolio after school as well.

Design features:
Text: Summarize the qualities of the use of type that make this site successful.
The whole color scheme on her website is very cohesive. I also like that her resume also has a splash of color as well. I like that her navigation bar is a different color then the background, it makes it easier to find it.
Navigation: Summarize the qualities of the navigation that make this site successful.
I like that the nav bar is different, but when you scroll over things they don’t change colors. I also cannot tell what other pages I’ve already been to.
Links: Summarize the qualities of the links, and their behavior that make this site successful.
PDF for her resume worked and downloaded very quickly.
Graphics: Summarize the use of Graphics, vector and raster, which make this site successful.
Graphics go well together. I like that you have to scroll over the picture to see the next button. It doesn’t take over the whole picture unless you would like it to.
General Design: Summarize the aspects of the overall design that make this site successful.
The graphics are very well done. Not too much flash, but enough to keep you interested.
Describe the purpose of this site in the notes. (Include whether it was easy to determine the purpose – why or why not?)
Notes:
I can tell that this is a site for someone that is still up and coming. She has a good foundation and great pictures. I think it will only mature as a site if she keeps it up with all of her new ideas and works.
